The 2019 theme, Triumph and Tragedy in History, invites students to research topics related to the theme Triumph & Tragedy in History. As is the case each year, the theme is broad enough to encourage investigation of topics ranging from local history to world history, and from ancient time to the recent past. To understand the historical importance of their topics students need to ask questions about time, place and context; cause and effect; change over time; and impact and significance. Students must consider not only when and where events happened, but also why they occurred and what factors contributed to their development. Description of the topic must also include an analysis of information and conclusions about how the topic influenced and was influenced by people, ideas or events

You can begin brainstorming for possible topics by thinking about subjects you are interested in, whether it is science, sports, art, travel, culture, or even specific people. Make note of any areas of interest, creating a list of possible subjects. Talking with your classmates, teachers, and parents about your list can help you narrow down your selection. Throughout this process, keep in mind that your topic must relate to "Triumph and Tragedy" and must be historical, not a current event, meaning it should be at least 20 years old.

%u200BA million ideas flood your mind when you think about conflict and compromise. The final products, which will include exhibits, web sites, dramatic performances, and documentaries, will cover a variety of exciting topics.
